The gift of paying attention
Quote by Julia Cameron from The Artist’s Way
I remember reading this for the first time and my eyes opening up in a new way. My mind having a literal shift. Something clicked and felt so right. I re-read it multiple times to really let the words sink in. I have loved these words and this observation so much that it has been printed out and on my desk for years, in different cities and different life chapters.
But the words always stay with me as the most fundamental life principle for me. Paying attention is a gift.
Every single day we wake up with a renewable resource. Our attention. And we get to use it how we want. We get to choose. We get to give it away or hold it. We get to shape what it becomes. That ownership, that creative power, the strength, the joy, the delight, whatever form you want it to take - it's already in your hands.
But only if we pay attention to the fact that we get to pay attention.
It's the gift that keeps on giving, if we pay attention to how we pay attention.
