The ART-chitecture of attention

My daughter made this collage. Blue sky. Yellow sun. Starry sky. Silvery moon. Same little house. Same red roof. Just a different light.

It’s funny how we spend our childhoods drawing houses, then we spend the rest of our lives building one that we can call our home.

Art by my daughter Alexandra, 4.

That lifetime home, the one we keep coming back to. The one that is with us day and night. Sun or starry night or storm. Thick and thin. Not just any house, but our own home of the self. Our own home is our life’s longest relationship, maybe our most difficult, seemingly endless renovation, and one that needs constant maintenance. Also, the space that keeps us safe. Keeps us warm. Protects us from the storm and holds all the different sides, versions of us. The one that invites others in and can always give us the feeling of returning home.

If we look at life and our inner world as our home, our own space that nobody else can touch, we get to make it however we want. We are the art-chitects. We get to bring in all the art, beauty, everything inside of you that lights you up, love, light, design, pleasure, joy, connection, anything we want into it. We get to renew anything that might not be serving us anymore. We can recreate and renew as much as we want in this life. We get to be the architect, the creator, the ideator - to make the plans we want and build the systems and walls and windows and doors we want.

And you know what we GET to build it all with during this life. Our attention. We get a renewable resource every single day. Like a well that refills itself every day. Like a forever fund to make your home any way you want. And all you have to do is pay attention to what you want your home to be like. Our attention is the golden always renewable magical material of it all

Art - the parts of life that are beautiful that you get to make and create what you’re truly drawn to and whats inside of you.
Chitecture - the systems you build, building for the long term, maintenance, the foundations, the structure - it’s all in your hands.

Our house of self is our life's longest relationship. Maybe our most difficult, yet certain. A seemingly endless renovation that needs constant maintenance. Also, the space that keeps us safe. Keeps us warm. Protects us from the storm. Holds all the different sides and versions of us. The one that invites others in. And the one that always gives us the golden feeling of returning home.

If we look at life and our inner world as our home, our own space that nobody else can touch, we get to make it however we want.

We are the ART-CHITECHTS.

We get to fill it with the ART we love, everything inside of us that lights us up. Love, beauty, design, pleasure, joy, connection. We get to renew anything that no longer serves us. Recreate and rebuild as much as we want, for as long as we live. We get to be the ARCHITECT, the creator, the ideator, the builder, to make the plans we want, and create the systems and walls and windows and doors we want.

And you know what we get to build it all with?

Our ATTENTION.

A renewable resource. Every single day. Like a well that refills itself every morning. A forever fund to make your home any way you want. All you have to do is pay attention to how you want your home to be, to what needs repair, to what needs more light or what needs to be rebuilt to make sure you feel your best inside.

Our attention is the golden, always renewable, magical material of it all.

Art : what's inside you. What you love, what you're drawn to, what lights you up.

Chitecture : the systems you build around that. The foundations, the structure, the long game.

Attention : the golden, always renewable, magical material of it all.

My daughter’s collage touched me so deeply because, just as little children, we’re creating, drawing and making houses - we then spend our life actually working on our own and making it a home.

She was just making her art, not knowing she is the architect of anything she wants in her life. <3

Two houses. Day and night. Sun and stars. Same home, always.
